जब घर या स्थान बनायें तो उसे अच्छी तरह से शुद्ध कर लें, चार वेदियाँ चारों दिशाओं के बाहरी दरवाजों पर और एक वेदी घर के मध्य में बना लें, या तांबे का एक वेदीनुमा तालाब बनवा लें ताकि सभी स्थानों को शुद्ध किया जा सके। एक तालाब में परोसा गया। पहले दिन सभी प्रकार की सामग्री अर्थात समिधा, घी, चावल, मिठाई, सुगंध, शक्तिवर्धक द्रव्य लेकर उन्हें शुद्ध करके रख लें। जिस दिन घर के मालिक का मन प्रसन्न हो, उस शुभ दिन गृह प्रतिष्ठा करें। वहां ऋत्विज, होता, अध्वर्यु तथा ब्रह्मा का चयन करें जो धार्मिक एवं विद्वान विद्वान हों। उन सभी को वेदी के पश्चिम की ओर बैठना चाहिए। इनमें होता का आसन पश्चिम की ओर था और उस पर वह पूर्व की ओर मुख किये हुए था, अध्वर्यु का आसन उस पर उत्तर की ओर था, दक्षिण की ओर था, उद्गाता का आसन उस पर पूर्व दिशा की ओर था, उस पर वह पश्चिम की ओर था और ब्रह्मा का उत्तमासन था। इस पर दक्षिण दिशा में और उत्तर की ओर मुंह करके फैलाएं - इस तरह चारों आसनों पर। चारों विद्वानों को बैठाना चाहिए और गृहस्थ को पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशा की ओर मुख करके सर्वत्र बैठाना चाहिए। इसी प्रकार, घर के मध्य में वेदी के चारों ओर और अन्य सीटें फैलाओ.
